My Portfolio - 3D Models - G36

Polygons - 11,354

This is my model of the G36 but with a grenade launcher attachment and the modified barrel that I actually made on my first go at making the gun.

The first attempt had this barrel casing and the grenade launcher but after completing both parts I later decided to alter it and create a normal version of the weapon with the default barrel and no included grenade launcher.

However now, a year later, due to the boredom that comes from having no net, I've decided to revisit the gun and create renders of the parts that, although were finished, never saw the light of day.

Enjoy ...

This is my attempt at modelling one of my favourite assault rifles, the G36. I love the look of this gun, with the almost rollcage style thing leading from the site to the barrel, the shape of the barrel casing itself and almost every other part of the gun. All in all it makes for one very nice stylish weapon.

The main reason for modelling the gun is the fact that my S.T.A.L.K.E.R. character needed a proper rifle to replace the MP5 he had before. Although the MP5 is itself a nice weapon I wanted something to represent the more powerful rifles that can be attained in the latter part of the game, and from the start I knew that gun would be the G36.

I wouldn't say that it was especially difficult to model but it wasn't too easy either. I started the process by trying to model it with subpatches but as I'm not really experienced with that method of modelling it didn't really work out, therefore I went back to my preferred method and modeled it with normal polygons and shapes. That way of modelling improves the look of the gun when used by my Lego characters as it simplifies the gun, matching it more to the simple design of my Legomen. The hardest part was then trying to get the proportions of the weapon right, but that was helped by the large library of images I collected off the internet of the real weapon. After that it was just a case of modelling each part of the gun and bringing it all together into the final product, which can be seen here.

I like making accessories for my Lego characters that are simpler than the real things, but I don't make them too simple that I hold myself back from learning new modeling skills.

I like this final product, it looks pretty cool, and matches the real weapon pretty well.
